Summer Isn’t Just a Season — It’s a Prescription for Radiance

Summer isn’t passive. It doesn’t wait for permission to shine, to sweat, to expand. It arrives loud, hot, and unapologetically alive. And if you're paying attention — truly paying attention — your body is asking to do the same.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer is ruled by the Fire element and governed by the Heart and Small Intestine. It is the time of joy, connection, sexuality, expression, and clarity. When in balance, this season elevates our spirit. When out of balance, it burns us out, literally and energetically. Caution with exercise between 11am-1pm when the heart has the most energy.

The Fire Element: Burn What Doesn’t Serve

Summer invites you to sweat — physically, emotionally, spiritually.

Your body detoxes through perspiration and the soul detoxes through joy, movement, and deep emotional release.

ASK YOURSELF…

  1. What needs to be burned off to reveal your next version?

  2. Which habits dim your inner fire?

  3. Are you ready to let them go?

The Heart Is the Emperor (Sit On Your Throne)

In TCM, your Heart rules your Shen (spirit). A strong heart shines through your eyes and your voice. It’s charisma rooted in clarity and confidence.

Signs of imbalance: anxiety, insomnia, scattered thoughts, disconnection.

SUPPORT YOUR HEART WITH…

  1. Bitter foods: arugula, dandelion, cacao nibs

  2. Herbs: Longan Fruit, Da Zao, Gou Qi Zi & Lily bulb (can be made into a tea).

  3. Daily stillness and spontaneous joy

The Sexy Science of Sweat (With Caution)

image of person sweating on their shoulder

Sweating clears toxins, boosts mood, and enhances circulation. But in summer, how you cool down matters…

Avoid gulping ice water when overheated — it can send your body into shock

Don’t stand directly in front of air conditioning while still sweaty — your pores are open and wind invasion is likely

Instead: Hydrate gradually with room temperature or cool water and electrolytes and Allow your body to cool naturally in the shade

Move and sweat intentionally. Restore with wisdom.
